Curriculum Vitae

In the 2021/2022 season Andrew Mayor was engaged to perform, despite the pandemic and amongst other roles, Don Carlo in the highly acclaimed production of La forza del destino for Regents Opera and a concert performance of Nabucco (Nabucco) both in London and in the 2019/2020 season Rodrigo in Verdi’s Don Carlo and Kothner in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. Plans in 2022/2023 include Donner in Das Rheingold and in 2023/2024 Gunther in Götterdämmerung.

As a baritone of acclaim, now developing into the dramatic repertoire, Andrew was chosen by Claudio Abbado as a soloist in Beethoven’s Choral Fantasia in the Salzburg Festival at the Grosses Festspielhaus with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. Engaged by the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden Andrew sang Starveling (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) conducted by Richard Hickox.

Internationally Mr Mayor toured throughout Europe singing Sharpless in Madama Butterfly and Rigoletto for Compagnia d’opera Italiano di Milano conducted by Tamás Bolberitz.

Other recent international engagements include Prospero in Berio’s Un Re in Ascolto at the Städtische Bühnen Münster conducted by Fabrizio Ventura, Man 1 in Harrison Birtwhistle’s The IO Passion and Johann in Andrea Holszky’s Bremer Freiheit both at the Konzerthaus, Berlin, Schicchi (Gianni Schicchi) in the Teatro Communale Monteleone, in Kuala Lumpur (Germont, La Traviata) and in Penang (Escamillo, Carmen) under the baton of Mark Shanahan.

Other prestigious performances in the UK include Masetto (Don Giovanni) and Ford (Falstaff) for English Touring Opera, the Count (Le Nozze di Figaro), Onegin (Eugene Onegin) and Renato in Un ballo in maschera all at the Holland Park Festival.

Further to his operatic career Andrew has also appeared on the concert platform in Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, St Petersburg, the opera house in Manaus, the Queen Elizabeth Hall and the Royal Albert Hall in London.

Andrew is now preparing Boccanegra (Simone Boccanegra), Holländer (Die fliegende Holländer)and Wozzeck (Wozzeck).

Andrew Mayor was born in Manchester and won a postgraduate scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music where he received various prizes. During his studies he sang Borilée in Rameau’s Les Boréades, conducted by Sir Roger Norrington.
